Residents of the Lower Hutt suburb of Taita can expect to see a greater police presence after an assault left a person seriously injured.
Police were called at about 5.20pm on Monday to the intersection of High and Tocker streets.
One person has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.
The person was targeted, police said, and they have no immediate concern for the wider community.
Police are making enquiries and trying to locate the people involved.
