Scientists from American Samoa's Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources are travelling to Samoa next week to conduct a survey of a butterfly that is endemic to the Samoas, the swallow tail .

The butterfly species is still plentiful in American Samoa but not so in Samoa where only one has been sighted within the last few years.

Steven Turnbull a wildlife biologist at the department says they will figure out why the butterfly is no longer thriving in Samoa but plentiful in the territory.

He said the territory would help re-establish the swallowtail butterfly population in Samoa.
