Fifty-nine years after being jailed and exiled, French Polynesia's anti-colonial leader Pouvanaa a Oopa has had its conviction quashed.
Pouvanaa claimed his innocence until his death in 1977 after he had been found guilty of fomenting unrest in Papeete.
But now the court of revision, which is part of France's highest jurisdiction, agreed that there was a miscarriage of justice.
Walter Zweifel followed the case and Ben Robinson-Drawbridge asked him what was at the heart of it.
