The Government is to reveal details of a $10m Canterbury earthquake memorial on Saturday.

Tim Elms, who lost his daughter in the quake, said families have been kept in the loop from the beginning.

He said they were given a very well organised presentation on the process and procedure for the new memorial a few months ago.

"Also, very helpful, they showed us pictures of various memorials around the world, for example the Oklahoma bombing."

Mr Elms said he understands there will be international calls for designs for the memorial. A panel, which will include a family member of one of the victims, will evaluate the designs.

He said it will be nice to have a memorial at which to sit and reflect.
