The Infrastruture Development Ministry under-secretary, Jimmy Nuake, says the legislation is long overdue.

He says the current Road Act is 60 years old and cannot meet international requirements.

Mr Nuake says the new act would incorporate a building code, with the new major focus being safety for Solomon Islanders.
