A technology problem has resulted in some Westpac customers having transactions from before Christmas show up on their accounts this week - causing them to go into overdraft.
A spokesperson for Westpac said Mastercard debit and credit card payments made by customers on 22 and 23 December were not been processed at the time and instead processed yesterday.
The bank apologised for the delay and any confusion it had caused customers.
Overdraft fees and interest incurred as a result of the error would be automatically waived, it said.
Some customers responded angrily on Westpac's Facebook page.
One said they could not understand how such an error happened, another said the bank was "incredibly difficult to deal with", while another called the error "disgusting" saying "I certainly hope we all get our money back asap".
Another customer told Westpac to sort it out saying they would be changing banks on Monday.
