Opposition parties say ACT's plan to improve housing affordability by allowing property owners to subdivide their land would increase red tape, rather than cut it.
ACT is proposing further amendments to the Resource Management Act to remove land development restrictions.
It says private property owners should be able to subdivide and develop their land without unnecessary costs and restrictions.
Labour leader David Shearer said ACT's policy would increase red tape, not cut it, because neighbours could object to any building development.
Green MP Holly Walker said the plan would lead to greater urban sprawl so won't make housing more affordable.
