The big sporting news of the week from a New Zealand perspective arrived on Thursday, with the announcement of the pay cut details for this country's top rugby players.

After a reasonably prolonged negotiation, it was been confirmed the almost 300 players in question could miss out on as much as $25 million if matches couldn't resume in 2020 because of the coronavirus crisis.

The agreement between New Zealand Rugby and the Players Association protects the base salary of those on a retainer of less than $50,000 but all players aren't able to collect additonal payments such as assembly fees, incentives and bonuses.
