A strike by some pilots has forced New Caledonia's international carrier to cancel Thursday's return flight from Noumea to Sydney.

The surprise action left the airline without any immediate option to accommodate the travellers on alternative flights.
The strike came amid an ongoing dispute over conditions and pay.
The airline has apologised to all affected passengers.
