Officer admits shooting dog with arrow

A police officer is under investigation after a dog was shot with an arrow in Whakatane.

The animal was found injured on 12 November.

Police said a few days later, an officer admitted to firing the arrow.

A criminal investigation, and an employment investigation are now underway, with investigators brought in from outside Bay of Plenty.

The officer involved has not been stood down.

The dog was treated by vets and is now recovering.
