Sport: Amicale and Auckland City to renew rivalry

08:44 am on 22 November 2014

Amicale FC are talking up their chances of claiming silverware in tomorrow's OFC President's Cup final in Auckland.

The Vanuatu champions finished top of Group B after wins over the Fiji Under 20s and the fully-professional Busaiteen from Bahrain.

Their opponents in the title decider will be New Zealand domestic champions Auckland City, who recorded Group A wins against the Singapore Under 23s and Bodden Town from the Cayman Islands.

Auckland prevailed when the sides last met in the Oceania Champions League final back in May and Amicale technical advisor Anthony Pisano is looking forward to renewing their rivalry.

"It's been a difficult preparation - we're a fairly new side - and just getting to the final and beating a professional team from Bahrain we're quite happy with that but we haven't stopped there and we're confident we can continue on and win the trophy, and who knows it might be a prelude to what happens in the [Oceania] Champions League."

The remaining teams in the competition will playoff tomorrow for third through sixth place.
