Police have charged three people with aggravated robbery after a Lower Hutt dairy had thousands of dollars worth cigarettes and cash stolen and its owner assaulted.

Shop owner Shreya Gandhi said four masked men stormed his shop on Knights Road about 7pm on Sunday, stole money from the till, took cigarettes and kicked her.

Police said on Thursday they had charged three people with aggravated robbery and they had appeared in New Plymouth Youth Court.

They have been remanded in custody and will reappear on 2 December.
