A prominent clergyman in Papua New Guinea has called for capital punishment for people convicted of gun-related offences.
The head of the Gutnius Lutheran Church, Bishop David Piso has told the Post Courier newspaper that the state has been given the power to enforce the law with capital punishment, and it should use that power.
Bishop Piso says with the escalation of lawlessness in PNG something drastic like the death penalty must be taken.
He said this would also eradicate the tribal system of payback.
