Flosse's Tahiti corruption trial poised to be moved

15:51 pm on 17 October 2013

A top official at France's highest court is reported to be in favour of moving a court of appeal case of French Polynesia's president, Gaston Flosse, away from Tahiti.

In January, Mr Flosse was given a five-year prison sentence for corruption as was a French advertising executive, Hubert Haddad.

Hubert Haddad had paid about two million US dollars in kickbacks over 12 years to Mr Flosse and his party to get public sector contracts.

The Nouvelles de Tahiti reports that the Paris court has proposed the trial be moved in part because in May Mr Flosse was again elected President.

A decision is expected next week.
