Bill seeks to close local boards loophole

A member's bill that seeks to close a loophole relating to membership on local boards in Auckland has been pulled from the ballot.

The bill is in the name of the National MP for North Shore, Maggie Barry.

The current law allows a candidates to serve on two or more local boards at the same time.

It is being argued that this allows for power to be concentrated in the hands of a few people, which can also lead to conflicts of interest.
