Firefighters gain control of scrub fire in Southland

16:49 pm on 30 November 2019

Firefighters north-west of Gore have brought a scrub fire under control.

A burn-off was being carried out on farmland halfway between Gore and Riversdale when the flames jumped a container line.

Helicopters with monsoon buckets helped to contain the blaze which has burned through around 150 hectares.

The volunteer fire brigade from Gore and a specialist team from Hedgehope remain at the scene.

Fire and Emergency says no buildings were under threat.
