Police executing a raid in Taumarunui say they have seized a stash of drugs, guns and cash.

Officers were brought in to the town to help carry out the search warrant, and between 22 and 26 April police found 2.4kg of cannabis, 10g of methamphetamine, four firearms, $7000 in cash and stolen property.

The items were seized from an address connected to a gang associate, Senior Sergeant Grant Alabaster said, and the raid was carried out after a long investigation by Taumarunui officers.

"This operation was designed to disrupt one of the sources of illicit drugs in our community," Alabaster said.

"It was concerning to locate weapons during this search, and our community is safer for them being seized."

A 53-year-old Taumarunui man was arrested and is due to reappear in the Taumarunui District Court on Thursday 16 May. He faces charges of possession of cannabis, possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm with further charges also being considered.
