The union representing employees at Papua new Guinea's electricity provider say it has put strike plans on hold until the outcome of negotiations is known.
The Energy Workers Association's Philip Kaira says a strike planned for this week has been cancelled after PNG Power management and government representatives came forward to open the way for negotiations.
Last week, the workers said they would strike after they received no response to their concerns over the planned hiring of a foreigner as CEO instead of a local at the state-owned corporation, and other issues.
The CEO-appointment has since been put on hold.
Mr Kaira says a resolution from the strike ballot by workers indicates union executives can still opt to strike...
"The parties have now gone on to the negotiating table so that's where we are at the moment. So we wish to exhaust the process. If the process doesn't ahieve results at the end then the union is compelled to use the results of the ballot to its advantage."
