Fiji Sun's editor in chief resigns

11:52 am on 18 March 2009

The editor-in-chief of Fiji's second largest newspaper, the Fiji Sun, Samisoni Kakaivalu has resigned.

Mr Kakaivalu confirmed to Fijlive he handed his two-month notice to management, effective on Monday.

He says resignation is due to some personal reasons.

He would not comment further.

The recently-appointed publisher and CEO Peter Lomas says the company will be issuing a statement shortly.

Mr Kakaivalu's resignation follows the resignation on Monday of former chief executive officer and publisher Russell Hunter, a year after he was deported to Australia by the interim government.

Following his deportation, Mr Hunter had continued to operate from Sydney as Fiji Sun publisher.
