Police have opened a homicide investigation into the death of an Opotiki man more than two years after his death.
Brian Albert Hilton, 77, was admitted to Tauranga Hospital with facial injuries on 7 July 2016 and died six days later.
Detective senior sergeant Greg Standen said at the time it was thought his injuries were from a fall in his home, but the police have received new information and are now treating the death as a homicide.
"Eastern Bay of Plenty Police are absolutely determined to hold the person who committed this extremely serious crime to account, and bring this case to a conclusion."
Mr Standen said CIB officers returned to Opotiki this week to revisit the case.
