The Canterbury Bulldogs have gone to the top of the National Rugby League alongside Manly, beating the South Sydney Rabbitohs 15-14 in a thriller at Sydney's ANZ Stadium.

The red-hot boot of Trent Hodkinson rescued the Dogs for the second successive week in a Good Friday classic.

Hodkinson struck a field goal two minutes from time to seal the victory in front of a big crowd of more than 41,000 - the best of the season - five days after doing likewise in a 21-20 win over the Warriors.

Elsewhere Manly edged the North Queensland Cowboys 26-21 at Central Coast Stadium, while the Brisbane Broncos ended a two-game losing streak with a 32-6 defeat of the Knights in Newcastle.
