The government has announced a well-being support package for fruit growers hit by a lack of workers and bad weather.
The Ministry for Primary Industries and the Social Development Ministry will contribute almost $350,000 to the package, which is a joint initiative with the sector, and will include events focusing on mental wellbeing.
Agriculture Minister Damien O'Connor said the situation was challenging, with the pandemic leading to workforce problems and bad weather causing crop losses.
New Zealand Apples and Pears said the package would build on work already being done to help growers attract, recruit and retain staff.
