Niue has had to ration power after lightning strikes caused extensive damage to power equipment.

On Saturday, Niue Power had to turn the power off for the southern side due to an unexpected fault with one of the generators, TV Niue reported.

Niue Power Corporation has urged the public to conserve power whenever possible as they work over the following weeks to restore the solar and battery system.

Television Niue and Radio Sunshine have also experienced damage to transmitters.

Radio Sunshine 88.6FM is currently offline while 91FM covers most parts of the Northern and Alofi areas and not the southern side.

Broadcasting Corporation of Niue (BCN) technicians are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible and ask for the patience of customers until then.
