Team Papua New Guinea admits it already has its eye on the 2015 Pacific Games as it counts down to next month's Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna.
PNG are sending a team of 148 athletes to the French Territory, almost one fifth of the 809 registered across the 20 countries and territories that will contest the Games.
The Chef de Mission for Team PNG, Richard Kassman, expects Fiji and New Caledonia to be their biggest rivals for medals and says, with PNG playing host to the next Pacific Games in two years time, they're keen to blood as much talent as possible.
"We've registered the maximum that we could for those events. We would have actually sent more if there were more events that we were able to participate in, and the reason being we are also using the Mini Games to continue to develop our athletes, particularly for 2015 when we host the Games. We obviously want to win gold medals as well: we are not treating this as a second-class event, if I could state that from the onset."
