An Auckland man police say engineered a confrontation in which he was shot by an officer has been charged at his hospital bedside.
Actor Robert Mokaraka, 36, was shot by an officer outside a house in the suburb of Point Chevalier on Monday.
A hearing of Auckland District Court was held in Auckland Hospital on Wednesday.
Mr Mokaraka was charged with possession of an offensive weapon and assault with a weapon.
Police say they went to the Point Chevalier house on Monday afternoon after a caller said a violent confrontation was imminent.
They say an officer shot a man after he approached officers and before a taser stun gun could be brought to the scene.
Mr Mokaraka is in a stable condition in hospital where he is expected to remain for at least a week.
He has been remanded on bail until 17 August.
