Police speaking to man over attack

A man is helping the police with their inquiries in relation to a sexual assault on a woman in Lower Hutt.

The woman was walking along the eastern side of the Hutt riverbank in Melling on 11 June when she was attacked in broad daylight.

Police yesterday released images of a man with a distinctive tattoo on his leg filmed by CCTV cameras about an hour before the attack.

They said they had identified the man, who had had been located and was helping with the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Nick Pritchard said thanks to media coverage, the police got a number of calls from the public in response to the release of the images. The investigation is continuing.
