A Lutheran missionary in Papua New Guinea's Highlands says a perfect storm of traditional spiritual beliefs mixed with local interpretations of Christianity have resulted in a marked increase in violence in which the victims are accused of sorcery.
Anton Lutz says there have been 12 reported attacks on women this year in Enga province but the number is probably higher.
Mr Lutz spoke with Dominic Godfrey and says in a recent case two women were blamed for the death of a three-year-old boy who choked on a piece of sweet potato.
