A Senate Investigative Committee has been set up to review alleged illegal and corrupt practices within the American Samoa government.
A resolution establishing the committee noted widespread complaints of abuse and misuse of government funds by various employees and officials requiring immediate investigation.
The resolution also says unless these illegal and corrupt practices and activities are exposed to the public and actions taken against the perpetrators, those responsible will be encouraged to continue without fear of retribution or punishment.
The six member committee, headed by former judge, Senator Lualemaga Faoa, is to investigate the awarding of sole source contracts by the Chief Procurement Officer without going through the bidding process, and the operation of the School Lunch Programme.
