Thousands of builders have today been told their licenses have been suspended after glitch in the system.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is apologising for the glitch in its automatic relicensing system.

MBIE registration and licensing occupational regulation manager Gary Parsons said the error meant 1835 builders received a notification they had not completed their relicensing requirements and their license had been suspended.

The error was corrected this morning and those affected received an apology, Parsons said.

MBIE is investigating the cause of the error to prevent it happening again.
