Former Solomon Islands MP appears in court

10:07 am on 5 October 2010

Former Solomon Islands Member of Parliament and Minister for Fisheries Nollen Leni appeared in the magistrates court yesterday.

The Solomon Star paper says he is facing a charge of criminal trespass.

The issue is in relation to the building he erected illegally on the Levers Solomon Limited LSL land in Lungga.

Mr Leni was charged by the Royal Solomon Police Force last month, when the Sheriff and police tried to enforce a May High Court order to evict him.

He refused to vacate the Lungga land and property peacefully, forcing police to remove him.

Mr Leni is seeking to appeal against the High Court May 2010 judgement which had ruled in favour of LSL.

However, his chance is slim as the Court of Appeal has previously, a month ago, refused his application to stay the Orders of the High Court.
