Two Taupo people have appeared in court charged with assaulting a three year old who later died.
Moko Sayviah Rangitoheriri died on Monday after being admitted to Taupo Hospital with critical injuries.
A 26-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man from Taupo appeared in Rotorua District Court this morning charged with assault on a child.
The judge granted the pair interim name suppression, and also suppressed the reasons for the decision as well any details on the case, citing the possibility of further charges.
The two accused were remanded in custody without plea and will reappear in court in Taupo on 10 September.
Police said the investigation into how the toddler died was ongoing.
A post mortem examination and a forensic examination of the property in Taupo were continuing.
