A man and woman charged with the murder of a man in Auckland's Mt Wellington on the weekend have been granted interim name suppression.

The victim was critically injured and later died from his injuries, while two others were moderately injured.

The incident unfolded on Tomuri Place in Mt Wellington in the early afternoon of Saturday.

The man who died had been stabbed, Detective Inspector Simon Harrison said.

The pair appeared separately in front of Judge David Sharp in the Auckland District Court on Monday.

The 23-year-old man - who was wearing a boiler suit - was supported in court by his mother.

He told her he loved her as he left the courtroom.

The 24-year-old woman stood quietly in the dock during her brief appearance.

She was also supported by family in court.

The man was remanded in custody while the woman was granted bail and the pair will appear in the High Court at Auckland on 18 September.

The murder was one of two in Auckland over the weekend - a second person died from a gun shot wound in Onehunga and a 32-year-old man has been charged.
