Fiji have named close to a full-strength side to take on Tonga in the Pasifika Challenge on Saturday in Auckland.

In-form hooker Sam Matavesi joins experienced props Campese Ma'afu and Kalivati Tawake in the front-row with Tevita Cavubati and Leone Nakarawa teaming up in the second row.

Captain Dominiko Waqaniburotu and Semi Kunatani are on the flanks while Peceli Yato starts for the first time at number eight this season.

Frank Lomani and Ben Volavola will dictate play in the halves while Levani Botia and Semi Radradra combine in a powerful midfield.

England and France based flyers Vereniki Goneva and Josua Tuisova are named on the wings while the electric Alivereti Veitokani gets the nod at fullback.

"We know Tonga will bring a lot of physicality in attack and defense in this match," said head coach John McKee.

"Our players know they will have to stand up in this physical contest to be successful in the outcome of this match."

"Our preparation since the 1st of July has been all about Rugby World Cup but when the Fiji team crosses the white line on Saturday this match will be about nothing other than Fiji versus Tonga."

John McKee said the Pasifika Challenge clash is an important chance to build momentum towards next month's World Cup.

"Players know that they have been given a great opportunity with this selection, to play well and put themselves in contention for selection in our opening Rugby World Cup match against Australia," he said.
