Family's sad vigil ends on Far North beach

The body of a 16-year-old boy has washed up on Ninety Mile Beach in the Far North, ending a five-day vigil by his family.

The police have named the teenager as Jarod Lineses, of Henderson in West Auckland.

He was hit by a wave and dragged out to sea by a heavy undertow while swimming with his family at Hukatere last Saturday.

A full search operation, including a plane, was launched but failed to find him.
