It's Budget week, and while school students don't have an official say until they turn 18, they're still aware of the issues.

First Up spent the morning at Macleans College in Howick, talking to top economics students about what they wanted from the new budget.

Hayley Xie, Surat Ebata, Elizabeth Koh, Sanjit Ramesh Chandran and Darsh Chaudhari took part in the Reserve bank's Monetary Policy challenge so aren't strangers to scrutinizing the country's economy.

They talked about their worries for the future, automation, the workplace and how they felt New Zealand's infrastructure and housing projects aren't keeping pace with the growing population.
