Fulton Hogan wants to build a quarry on a 170 hectare site next to the township of Templeton that would supply aggregate for the city's rebuild and would have a life of 40 years.

But [https://www.radionz.co.nz/news/national/353147/templeton-ratepayers-consider-seceding-over-quarry

residents have been fighting this], saying it will impact their health and property values.

Fulton Hogan initially said it would not apply for resource consent before May this year.

But the Canterbury Regional Council said Fulton Hogan had now decided it would not be filing any resource consent applications to either the regional council or the Selwyn District Council before July.

Fulton Hogan confirmed this.

In a statement, a spokesperson said the company wanted to wait until an air monitoring programme at another quarry, in Yaldhurst, was completed and the results were released.

That programme was set up due to health concerns from residents living nearby.

"We believe it's vital that the full results of current Yaldhurst air quality monitoring be fully known before we lodge consent applications," the spokesperson said.

"The Canterbury Regional Council has recently informed the quarry industry and wider community that the programme's full results will not be available until July 2018."
