DoC says Northland fire contained

20:18 pm on 24 January 2013

Firefighters have contained a blaze that has ravaged more than 200 hectares of bush in Northland.

The fire broke out on Tuesday morning in Pouto in Kaipara and continued to spread on Wednesday.

Three helicopters and 90 firefighters worked to control it on Thursday.

Department of Conservation spokesperson Karen Joyce-Paki says they are dampening down hotspots and making sure it doesn't spread any further.

Ms Joyce-Paki says the still weather has helped with their efforts. However, firefighters expect to be working over the coming long weekend.
