Curio Bay carpark threatens penguins, says volunteer ranger

A volunteer ranger says the Department of Conservation is putting the yellow-eyed penguin at risk to build a capark in Southland's Curio Bay. The South Catlins Charitable Trust is building a multi-million dollar Natural Heritage Centre in partnership with DoC as well as other local groups. But Sian Torrington, a volunteer ranger for DOC, is worried the construction site is dangerously close to where the rare yellow-eyed penguin, or hoiho, have their nests.
