Solomon Islands businesses say online registrations have made activity easier

The Solomon Islands electronic Companies Registry has seen a steady growth of registrations since its online launch last year.

The Asian Development Bank funded the new paperless registration process to improve the efficiency of the private sector.

The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce CEO, Calvin Ziru, says going online and updating the Companies Act has definitely made things easier for busineses.

"To push ourselves to the place where we can actually compete with the likes of Papua New Guinea, Fiji and of course Samoa and other neighbouring countries. But really to be on par, as a member of this region we owe it to our neighbours as well to be part of a region that is competitive."

Calvin Ziru says they are hoping to get other types of registrations available online now as well.

He was in Auckland attending a Pacific Registries workshop put on by the Asian Development Bank and the New Zealand Companies Office.
