For the first time, Russia will join foreign and U.S. warships participating in the largest naval exercise in the world.

The Rim of the Pacific exercise is held every two years in Hawaii.

The Honolulu Star Bulletin reports that the Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Admiral Robert Willard, says the Russian navy will join the estimated three dozen warships from 11 nations in this year's exercise.

The other foreign navies participating this year have not been announced.
