A symbolic national reconciliation between Bougainville and Papua New Guinea is set to happen next week in Kokopo in East New Britain.
The reconciliation is targeted at former combatants and members of the PNG security forces including defence, police and correctional services.
Bougainville's acting chief secretary, Thomas Raivet, said the reconciliation must happen before Bougainville's independence referendum on 23 November to ensure Bougainvilleans feel free to vote.
Officials from both governments were working closely to ensure the reconciliation was meaningful and peaceful, Mr Raivet said.
