An archaeologist who has uncovered hundreds of items from demolition sites in Christchurch, says she hopes it will help people gain a better understanding of life in the city in the 19th century.
Underground Overground Archaeology excavated the Isaac Theatre Royal site last year and discovered plates, bottles, animal bones and a crucible.
The artefacts are being processed and stored in about 250 boxes in a warehouse at Wigram.
Archaeologist Katharine Watson says they weren't expecting to find such a large amount of artefacts, andare unsure what will be done with them.
She hopessome of the well-preserved pieces will be put on display for the public.
