Former Cuban president Fidel Castro has made a rare public appearance to mark the birthday of his sister-in-law Vilma Espin, who died in 2007.
State television broadcast images of Mr Castro talking to students and teachers at a school named after his fellow revolutionary, who fought alongside him nearly 60 years ago.
He told them that everybody who died fighting for the revolution left their energy on the way.
Mr Castro, who turns 90 in August, handed over the presidency in 2008 to his younger brother Raul, the widower of Ms Espin.
