Employers and employees in French Polynesia join forces

09:52 am on 10 July 2010

Employers and employees in French Polynesia have joined forces to urge the government to act in the face of the growing social problems.

They have sent a joint letter to the President, Gaston Tong Sang, saying the general social protection system needs to be reformed as soon as possible.

This is prompted by concern that the public pension provider could become insolvent.

The delegates say they are upset that the Solidarity Minister, Teura Iriti, failed to seek their input when she organised discussions on the matter at the beginning of the week.

According to Tahitipresse, they expected her to brief them about her plans to go to Paris to seek more funding.
