Hamiltonians are getting the last laugh as the first-ever comedy club in the city is opening this month. Coinciding with the Comedy Festival, Last Laugh Comedy Club is the only comedy club in the Waikato region.

It’s the dream of a group of comedians. With a marketing background and experience in the performing arts, comedian Tom Lucas is spearheading the venture. The club is located on Victoria Street in central Kirikiriroa Hamilton, and it’s formed a partnership with the Paddock To Plate restaurant next door. The restaurant will provide food and snacks.

Each week there will be a regular line-up of events including quiz nights, open mic-nights, improvisation shows, game shows and performances by both rising stars and established comedians. From Wednesday to Saturday, Hamiltonians will have a consistent schedule of comedy at one venue.

With only three other comedy clubs around the country - The Classic in Auckland, Fringe Bar in Wellington and Good Times Comedy Club in Christchurch, this will only be the fourth in Aotearoa. Aside from providing the Waikato region with a venue, this will give comedians across the country another platform to practice and perform.

The Last Laugh Comedy Club in Hamilton opens on 15 May.
