The district council has 138 leadership posts, ranging from managers, to team leaders, to co-ordinators of front-line staff.

Under the new structure, that will drop to 86.

Chief executive Barbara McKerrow said staff whose jobs are disestablished will be able to apply for new roles, although the restructure will result in 31 less full-time equivalent positions.

The council currently employs 510 people.

The leadership restructure is part of a plan designed to make savings worth $20 million by 2025.
