Police have arrested five youths in Napier after a stolen vehicle used in a burglary was spotted by a patrol.
The young people, aged between 11 to 14 years old, fled the scene on foot after the vehicle was brought to a stop by spikes.
Police alleged that the group was responsible for breaking into a store on Marine Parade in Napier during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Some of the youths were interviewed and police alleged they were out to commit further burglaries.
Hawke's Bay Area Commander Inspector Lincoln Sycamore said the community deserved to conduct lawful business without the threat of being a victim of crime.
"We're all in a tough spot with rising costs, and the impact of natural disasters," he said.
"I commend our staff for their actions and I thank our community for supporting police."
The five youths will face further enforcement action for a number of alleged offences.
