Three sedition accused in Fiji now to be witnesses

15:55 pm on 1 September 2015

Sedition charges against three people in Fiji have been withdrawn, with the men instead being called as prosecution witnesses.

State prosecutors informed the Suva Magistrate's court the men had been granted immunity from prosecution.

The trio were earlier charged along with the opposition MP Mosese Bulitavu and Jagath Karunaratne in relation to writing seditious comments at various places in Suva in 2011.

Mr Bulitavu's application for bail variation to leave the country next month was refused by the court.

Dozens of people have been charged with sedition in the last month amid police investigations into alleged attempts to form a breakaway state and military style training.
