Two people have died in a single-vehicle crash in the Bay of Plenty.
The crash was reported about 3.40 on State Highway 35 at Toatoa, east of Ōpōtiki, when a passer-by discovered a vehicle down a bank.
Police confirmed this evening that two people died in the accident.
Enquiries into the crash are ongoing, police said.
