Backers of the restoration of the historic Governors Bay jetty say repair work could start as early as June next year.
However, about $2.3 million still has to be raised before the 300-metre jetty can be rebuilt.
The Governors Bay Jetty Restoration Trust is putting funding applications into the Rata Foundation and the Lotteries Commission.
The trust's secretary, Louisa Eades, said they're also hoping the Christchurch City Council, which has already contributed $535,000, will contribute more.
"A lot of these funding decisions are made between February and the end of June next year, so if it all comes together then we could start.
"If not then we would have to take a bit longer to raise it from community sources," Ms Eades said.
